Peter Crawford Valentino: The Visionary Behind Legacy Online School K-12 in Wisconsin

Embrace the world of Peter Crawford Valentino, the visionary behind Legacy Online School, and be inspired by a legacy that intertwines art, passion, and education.
In the bustling heart of Florida, drawing from a rich lineage of five generations of educators and propelled by his extensive experience in teaching, Peter Crawford Valentino made a monumental decision: to found the K12 Legacy Online School. A beacon of education, this institution stands as a testament to Peter's commitment to knowledge and his belief in the transformative power of learning.
Peter is a man of many talents — an accomplished actor, writer, director, producer, musician, and, notably, a teacher. His vast and varied journey, which spans from the vibrant streets of LA to the iconic skyline of New York and the glittering lights of Las Vegas, is a story of creative search, passion, dedication, and unyielding commitment to the arts.

From his early days as a lead singer and guitarist, captivating audiences in local LA venues, to his concert tour for the U.S. military that took him across the Middle East and Europe, Peter's musical journey was a sight to behold, earning him a special feature on MTV. His love for melodies seamlessly integrates into his films, creating soundtracks that are both enchanting and unforgettable.

The allure of theater was another calling Peter could not resist. Diverse roles in stage plays, live improv comedy, television, and film only deepened his love for the performing arts. This love took him to New York City, where he honed his skills as an improv actor, and later to Las Vegas, where he established the Neon Venus Art Theatre, and subsequently its sister theater in the Hollywood district.

Noteworthy films and projects like "Bobby and Tiffany", "Davidson and Bradley", "Dead Dreamers", "Detective Charles Hanover", "The Falcon", "Ivan's Angels", and "Golden Blood", to name a few, grace his portfolio. Explore his detailed journey and list of achievements on IMDb, and for those looking to connect on a professional front, his LinkedIn profile awaits.

Wisconsin families have more online school options than most states. Several tuition-free virtual public schools serve students throughout Wisconsin – from grades 4K-12. And for families who need a WASC-accredited private diploma, live daily instruction, and 19 AP courses, there’s a different path.

Not recordings. Not office hours. Real teachers, live, every single school day.

Here’s what the Wisconsin virtual learning landscape looks like – and where the options diverge.

Private vs. Public Online Schools in Wisconsin

Wisconsin has two tracks: public and private. Public virtual charter schools (Wisconsin Virtual Academy, eAchieve Academy, Wisconsin Connections Academy) are tuition-free, state-funded, open to Wisconsin residents. Private online schools operate independently – different accreditation bodies, different curricula, tuition-based.

Private schools serving Wisconsin families include The Keystone School (MSA-CESS accredited, self-paced model), Citizens High School (non-regionally accredited, self-paced only), Laurel Springs School (WASC-accredited, mix of live and self-paced but semester-locked), and George Washington University Online High School (selective admissions, college-prep focus).

Public charter schools work if you’re Wisconsin-based and fit their calendar. Private schools drop the residency requirement, open enrollment year-round, and build schedules around the learner.

How We Compare to Other Private Online Schools in Wisconsin

Wisconsin Private Virtual Schools Legacy Online School
Cost $4,000–$10,000/year avg Start at $2,500/year
Accreditation WASC, MSA-CESS, or none WASC-accredited (private)
Curriculum Varies by school FLVS-based, US-accredited
Schedule Self-paced or semester blocks Self-paced + live group + 1-on-1
Eligibility Open enrollment Open globally
AP Courses 5–12 courses typical 19 AP courses
Class size Self-paced only or 15–20 Max 15 learners per live class
Live instruction Limited or none (Laurel: yes) Daily, Monday–Friday (Group plan)
Dual enrollment Limited or none ASU & USF

Keystone and Citizens run self-paced only – no live teaching. Laurel Springs offers live sessions but locks into semester blocks. GWU Online is selective and college-prep focused but doesn’t offer one-on-one instruction. We run three plans – self-paced, live group (15-learner cap), one-on-one – and families switch between them without re-enrolling.

High School Program at Legacy

Our high school program runs grades 9-12 on a FLVS curriculum. Legacy is WASC-accredited and a College Board Level I approved school, code 000114.

19 AP courses. Full stop. AP Biology, Calculus AB and BC, Computer Science A and Principles, English Language and Composition, English Literature and Composition, Environmental Science, Human Geography, Macroeconomics, Microeconomics, Physics 1, Precalculus, Psychology, Spanish Language and Culture, Statistics, US Government and Politics, US History, Art History.

AP courses are available only to pupils enrolled in a full program – not as standalone online courses.

Dual enrollment through Arizona State University (ASU) and University of South Florida (USF) gives high schoolers the option to earn college credit before graduation. That’s the only dual enrollment partner we work with.

Three Learning Plans

Live Group Learning – max 15 enrollees per class, 1:15 teacher ratio, live instruction Monday through Friday. Teachers and classmates interact in real time. For those who need structure and daily contact.

One-on-One Learning – individual lessons, customizable curriculum and schedule. For learners who need intensive academic support or unique scheduling around other commitments.

Self-Paced Learning – no fixed academic year, no synchronized schedule. Teachers work through coursework with your children and provide written feedback. Flexible learning environment at maximum. No clock.

Diploma and College Readiness

Children who complete our program receive a US High School Diploma from Legacy Online School – a K-12 WASC-accredited institution. It’s accepted for college admissions, employment, and military enlistment globally. Not a GED equivalent. Two graduation tracks: Standard Diploma (18 credits, university-bound) and Honors Diploma (24 credits, for learners targeting competitive universities or scholarships). Accelerated Diploma (18 credits) available for pupils targeting faster graduation or career pathways.

Penn State, University of New Haven (Cybersecurity – $30K merit scholarship), Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University ($5K), University of Maryland. Those are recent Legacy graduates. WASC-accredited private school transcripts are accepted for admissions by UW-Madison, UW-Milwaukee, and Marquette.

What's the difference between public virtual schools and private online schools in Wisconsin?
Public virtual schools are tuition-free, state-funded, Wisconsin-only, and follow state standards. Enrollment goes through open enrollment windows. Private online schools charge tuition, have no residency requirement, and operate under regional accreditation (WASC, MSA-CESS). Private schools offer more scheduling flexibility – self-paced, live group, and one-on-one options – while public schools follow fixed calendars.
What should Wisconsin families check before choosing a private online school?
Start with accreditation – who issued it, and do credits transfer to the schools your child is targeting. Check the schedule model: self-paced only, live instruction, or both. Look at AP course availability. Ask what happens when your child struggles – live teacher support or automated feedback. Check class sizes for live sessions. Verify the diploma is regionally accredited. No universal best – the right school fits your child's goals and learning style.
How do private online schools in Wisconsin compare to each other?
Keystone offers rolling enrollment but mostly self-paced work. Citizens High School runs self-paced only, no live teaching. Laurel Springs has live sessions but locks you into semester blocks. GWU Online is selective and college-prep focused. We run three plans – self-paced, live group (15-learner cap), one-on-one – and you switch between them without re-enrolling.
Are diplomas from private online schools recognized by Wisconsin colleges?
Regional accreditation matters more than the school's location. WASC-accredited diplomas are recognized by UW-Madison, UW-Milwaukee, Marquette, and other Wisconsin institutions the same way campus-based credentials are. What admissions offices review: course rigor, GPA, AP scores, and whether credits come from an accredited institution.
Do private online schools in Wisconsin offer part-time enrollment?
Yes. Part-time plans let families supplement a traditional school with specific courses – AP classes their local school doesn't offer, core subjects on a flexible schedule, or individual courses for credit recovery. Enrollment is rolling, no fixed start date. Students can switch between part-time and full-time without re-enrolling.
Can Wisconsin families get financial assistance for private online schools?
Wisconsin doesn't have a universal voucher program like Arizona or Indiana. The Milwaukee and Racine Parental Choice Programs cover private school tuition for eligible families in those districts only. Statewide, private school tuition is out-of-pocket. Some private online schools offer payment plans (annual, semester, monthly) with discounts for upfront payment.
How does dual enrollment work at private online schools?
Most private schools don't offer it at all. Laurel Springs partners with community colleges in some states but not universally. We work with Arizona State University and the University of South Florida for dual enrollment – courses taken through ASU or USF can count toward both high school graduation and a future college degree.
What support do students get in private online schools?
Qualified teachers grade work, answer questions, and give feedback across all learning plans. Live Group students get real-time instruction with a 1:15 teacher ratio. One-on-One students work directly with a dedicated teacher who builds the curriculum around them. Self-Paced students receive written feedback and can reach teachers through messaging. Virtual clubs are included in every enrollment plan.
