Legacy Online School is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), a distinction that underscores our commitment to high standards of excellence in education.
Texas is big enough that families leave a school for very different reasons. A parent works shifts, and the school day doesn’t fit. A child fell a grade behind in math, and nobody noticed in time. The commute eats two hours a day. Whatever pushed you here, changing schools is a decision, not a failure.
Legacy Online School is a private school for grades K-12 – classes are live, capped at 15 students, and a student in Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, or El Paso joins from home. Legacy is based in Florida, so its schedule follows Eastern time. Most of Texas is an hour behind, and El Paso is two. Ask the admissions team how class times land on your clock.
Texas requires children from age 6 to 19 to attend school. A public school meets that rule, and so does a private school, not to mention a home-based program. The state leaves private school regulation light – families meet the rule when a school provides bona fide instruction in reading, spelling, grammar, math, and good citizenship. The Texas Education Agency (TEA) in Austin does not approve or register homeschool programs, and families who homeschool don’t file a notice of intent.
Legacy is a private online school that operates from Florida. It is registered with the Florida Department of Education (School Code 9881) and accredited by WASC. If your child is leaving a public school, tell the district you are withdrawing so absences don’t pile up. Questions about your situation go to your district or the Texas Education Agency.
Texas started its Education Freedom Accounts in 2026–27. Students at participating accredited private schools can receive more than $10,000 a year, and homeschool students $2,000. The accounts pay only participating schools, and the state says accredited private virtual schools must have a Texas business location. Legacy is based in Florida, so do not count on these funds for Legacy tuition. Ask the admissions team whether that has changed before you plan around it.
Live Group is 15–25 live hours a week, depending on grade, with a teacher and classmates on a fixed schedule. Classes start at 9:00 AM. Elementary school meets Monday through Thursday, and middle school and high school meet Monday through Friday. Self-Paced is the flexible schedule: you set the pace, and a teacher steps in when your child gets stuck.
Both plans use the FLVS curriculum, delivered on FlexPoint Education Cloud, with all course materials digital. The curriculum page lists subjects by grade. Qualified teachers lead the live classes, and a Learning Support Specialist sends parents progress updates, so you know where things stand without chasing anyone. Students can also join virtual clubs.
High school students can take 19 AP courses approved by the College Board, Honors classes, and dual enrollment with Arizona State University and the University of South Florida. The diploma comes in three tracks – Standard (24 credits), Accelerated (18), and Honors (24). Older students get college guidance. Admission is each college’s decision, so check the requirements at the schools on your list.
Accreditation for Legacy comes from WASC, which is an accrediting body for the region and is also approved by the U.S. Department of Education (see the accreditation page). Accreditation is for the school, and it is up to individual districts/colleges to accept the transcript.
Tuition starts at $149 a month, and grade and plan move that number. Current figures are on the tuition and fees page. The enrollment fee is $299 for the first child and $199 for each sibling, so two children come to $498 before tuition. Tutoring is $25 an hour. AP courses may need digital textbooks, usually $20–55 per course. A 7-day full tuition refund applies, and the enrollment fee is non-refundable.
Legacy does not currently support non-verbal students. If you want to see a class before you decide, join a free trial class.
