Peter Crawford Valentino: The Visionary Behind Legacy Online School K-12 in Indiana

Embrace the world of Peter Crawford Valentino, the visionary behind Legacy Online School, and be inspired by a legacy that intertwines art, passion, and education.
In the bustling heart of Indiana, drawing from a rich lineage of five generations of educators and propelled by his extensive experience in teaching, Peter Crawford Valentino made a monumental decision: to found the K12 Legacy Online School. A beacon of education, this institution stands as a testament to Peter's commitment to knowledge and his belief in the transformative power of learning.
Peter is a man of many talents — an accomplished actor, writer, director, producer, musician, and, notably, a teacher. His vast and varied journey, which spans from the vibrant streets of LA to the iconic skyline of New York and the glittering lights of Las Vegas, is a story of creative search, passion, dedication, and unyielding commitment to the arts.

From his early days as a lead singer and guitarist, captivating audiences in local LA venues, to his concert tour for the U.S. military that took him across the Middle East and Europe, Peter's musical journey was a sight to behold, earning him a special feature on MTV. His love for melodies seamlessly integrates into his films, creating soundtracks that are both enchanting and unforgettable.

The allure of theater was another calling Peter could not resist. Diverse roles in stage plays, live improv comedy, television, and film only deepened his love for the performing arts. This love took him to New York City, where he honed his skills as an improv actor, and later to Las Vegas, where he established the Neon Venus Art Theatre, and subsequently its sister theater in the Hollywood district.

Noteworthy films and projects like "Bobby and Tiffany", "Davidson and Bradley", "Dead Dreamers", "Detective Charles Hanover", "The Falcon", "Ivan's Angels", and "Golden Blood", to name a few, grace his portfolio. Explore his detailed journey and list of achievements on IMDb, and for those looking to connect on a professional front, his LinkedIn profile awaits.

Indiana runs one of the largest school choice programs in the country. The Choice Scholarship Program enrolled 76,067 students in 2024–25 – a record – and a 2023 law made nearly every Hoosier family eligible regardless of income or prior school history. Online high schools, both public and private, are a growing part of that Indiana digital learning landscape.

The options aren’t interchangeable. What your child enrolls in determines their high school diploma, which credits transfer, and what a college admissions office sees. Not recordings. Not office hours. Real teachers, live, every single school day.

Private vs. Public Online High Schools in Indiana

Indiana has two tracks: public and private. Public schools (Indiana Connections Academy, Virtual Preparatory Academy) are tuition-free, state-regulated, follow Indiana standards. Private online schools operate independently – different accreditation bodies, different curricula, tuition-based but eligible for Indiana Choice Scholarship vouchers.

Private schools serving Indiana families include The Keystone School (MSA-CESS accredited, self-paced model), Citizens High School (non-regionally accredited, self-paced only), Laurel Springs School (WASC-accredited, mix of live and self-paced but semester-locked), and George Washington University Online High School (selective admissions, college-prep focus).

Public schools work if you’re Indiana-based and fit their calendar. Private schools drop the residency requirement, open enrollment year-round, and qualify for Choice Scholarship funds.

How We Compare to Other Accredited Private Online Schools in Indiana

Legacy Online School is a WASC-accredited private K-12 online school – outside Indiana’s public virtual system entirely.

Indiana Private Online Schools Our School
Cost $4,000–$9,000/year avg) Paid enrollment
Accreditation WASC, MSA-CESS, or none WASC (regional)
Curriculum Varies by school FLVS-based, US-accredited
Schedule Self-paced or semester blocks Self-paced + live group + 1-on-1
Eligibility Open enrollment Open globally
AP Courses 5–12 courses typical 19 AP courses
Class size Varies Max 15, 1:15 ratio
Live instruction Limited or none (Laurel: yes) Daily, Monday–Friday (Group plan)
Choice Scholarship Eligible (verify per school) Eligible – $6,536 avg award 2024–25

Indiana Choice Scholarship families can apply their voucher toward private school tuition – the average award in 2024–25 was $6,536. Keystone and Citizens run self-paced only – no live teaching. Laurel Springs offers live sessions but locks into semester blocks. GWU Online is selective and college-prep focused but doesn’t offer one-on-one instruction. We run three plans – self-paced, live group (15-learner cap), one-on-one – and families switch between them without re-enrolling.

K-12 Curriculum: AP Courses and Beyond

Our K-12 program covers elementary through high school (9–12). Through our College Board affiliation (school code: 000114), we offer 19 AP courses:

AP Art History, AP Biology, AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, AP Computer Science A, AP Computer Science Principles, AP English Language and Composition, AP English Literature and Composition, AP Environmental Science, AP Human Geography, AP Macroeconomics, AP Microeconomics, AP Physics 1, AP Precalculus, AP Psychology, AP Spanish Language and Culture, AP Statistics, AP United States Government and Politics, AP United States History.

These are available to children on a full program – not standalone add-ons. Strong AP scores mean college credits before graduation – the kind of head start that matters for Indiana learners preparing for college at Indiana University, Purdue, Notre Dame, or beyond.

Middle school covers Language Arts, Math, Science, Social Studies, plus electives including Computer Science, Digital Art, and Spanish. Elementary runs Art, Technology, and Physical Education – all with qualified teachers who give real feedback, and build thinking and problem-solving skills from the ground up.

Three Learning Plans

Live Group

Live classes, max 15 pupils, 1:15 teacher ratio. Real interaction, school-day structure, no commute.

One-on-One

Individual lessons, fully customizable curriculum and schedule – suitable for pupils who need intensive support or can’t fit a group schedule.

Self-Paced

Children learn at their own pace – no fixed year, no synchronized schedule. Teachers still grade, answer questions, and give feedback. The timeline belongs to the child.

Part-time plans are available for families supplementing rather than switching. Virtual clubs come with every enrollment plan. See all the available options.

Diploma and Accreditation

A Legacy diploma is not a GED equivalent. It’s a fully accredited high school diploma – accepted for college admissions, trade school applications, and military enlistment.

WASC accreditation travels further than Indiana state-level accreditation. Recent Legacy graduates have enrolled at Penn State, the University of New Haven (Cybersecurity – $30K merit scholarship), Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University ($5K scholarship), and the University of Maryland. For Hoosier families whose children might attend college outside Indiana, move between states, or apply internationally – that portability matters.

Enroll from Anywhere in Indiana

No enrollment window, residency check, or prior school required. Families choose a plan, confirm grade placement, and start.

Self-Paced plans start at $149/month for elementary. View current tuition and fees for all grades and plans. Indiana Choice Scholarship recipients should get in touch with our admissions team about applying their enrollment voucher.

How do private online schools in Indiana compare to each other?
Most private online schools serving Indiana families operate nationally – Keystone (MSA-CESS accredited, self-paced only), Citizens High School (non-regionally accredited, self-paced), Laurel Springs (WASC, mix of live and self-paced but semester-locked). We're WASC-accredited with three learning plans – self-paced, live group (15-learner cap), one-on-one – and families switch between them without re-enrolling.
Can Indiana Choice Scholarship funds be used for private online schools?
Yes. Indiana's Choice Scholarship Program covers private school tuition, including accredited online institutions. The average award in 2024–25 was $6,536. Families already receiving a voucher can apply it toward enrollment in WASC-accredited private online schools. Contact our admissions team to confirm eligibility and apply the voucher to tuition.
Are private online high schools recognized by Indiana colleges?
Regional accreditation matters more than the school's location. WASC-accredited diplomas are recognized by Indiana University, Purdue, Notre Dame, and other Indiana institutions the same way campus-based credentials are. What admissions offices review: course rigor, GPA, AP scores, and whether credits come from an accredited institution. WASC travels further than state-level accreditation – especially for families who might move between states or apply to colleges outside Indiana.
Do private online schools in Indiana offer part-time enrollment?
Yes. Part-time plans let families supplement a traditional school with specific courses – AP classes their local school doesn't offer, core subjects on a flexible schedule, or individual courses for credit recovery. Enrollment is rolling, no fixed start date. Students can switch between part-time and full-time without re-enrolling.
What support do students get in private online schools?
Qualified teachers grade work, answer questions, and give feedback across all learning plans. Live Group students get real-time instruction with a 1:15 teacher ratio. One-on-One students work directly with a dedicated teacher who builds the curriculum around them. Self-Paced students receive written feedback and can reach teachers through messaging. Virtual clubs are included in every enrollment plan
How do Indiana families typically use private online schools?
Full-time enrollment for families who need year-round flexibility, want AP courses beyond what local schools offer, or don't fit traditional school calendars. Part-time enrollment for homeschoolers supplementing with accredited coursework, athletes with competition schedules, or students recovering credits. Some families start part-time and switch to full-time later without re-enrolling.
Can homeschooled students in Indiana transition to a private online high school mid-year?
Yes. Rolling enrollment means no fixed start date – families can transition from homeschooling to an accredited private online school at any point during the year. Transcripts transfer, previous coursework is reviewed for placement, and students continue without waiting for a semester break.
What's the difference between self-paced and live group learning in private online schools?
Self-paced means no fixed class times – lessons available on the student's schedule, teachers grade work and provide written feedback. Live group means real-time classes with a teacher and classmates, structured school day, immediate Q&A. Live Group classes run Monday through Friday with a maximum of 15 students per class.
