Anti-Bullying and Anti-Harassment Policy

1.1 Commitment

Legacy Online School is committed to a learning environment free from bullying, cyberbullying, harassment, discrimination, and retaliation. This commitment applies to conduct through the platforms, in live or recorded sessions, and in any school communication channel, by or toward students, families, and staff. The school does not tolerate bullying in any form.

1.2 What bullying is

Bullying means intentionally hurtful behavior in which a person uses power to harm another. It may happen once or repeatedly. Forms of bullying include: Harassment includes unwelcome conduct directed at a person because of a protected characteristic that creates an intimidating, hostile, or offensive learning environment.

1.3 How to report

Any student, parent, or staff member who experiences or witnesses bullying, harassment, or discrimination should report it promptly. Reports may be made in writing or verbally, and may be made anonymously. A person who reports may ask to remain anonymous. Where a name is given, the school keeps it confidential to the extent possible and does not disclose to other students who made a report.

1.4 What happens after a report

The school acts promptly on every report. It reviews what happened, speaks with the people involved, keeps the report as confidential as possible, and takes interim measures where needed to protect the student who was harmed. The school communicates with the affected family as appropriate and consistent with privacy obligations, and gives the person who reported feedback that the report was addressed.

1.5 Response and consequences

The school responds proportionately, considering the seriousness of the conduct, the student’s age and history, and the safety of others. Responses may include:

Step What it means
Warning and a conversation A staff member explains clearly why the behavior was wrong, how it harmed others, and what the school expects.
Parent contact The school contacts the families of the students involved, discusses what happened, and works with them to stop the behavior.
Suspension The student is removed from class for a period where the conduct is serious or continues.
Expulsion The student is dismissed from the school where the conduct is very serious or does not stop.

1.6 Support and restorative measures

Stopping bullying is about care as well as rules. The school supports every student involved. A student may meet with a counselor, individually or in a small group, and those conversations are private. Where appropriate, a trained adult may help the student who was harmed and the student who caused harm to talk through what happened. The school teaches students how to treat others with care, how to communicate respectfully, and how to stay calm in difficult moments, and it supports a student who has caused harm to repair it.

1.7 Retaliation

Retaliation against anyone who makes a good-faith report or participates in a review is strictly prohibited and is itself a disciplinary matter.

1.8 The role of students, families, and the school community

Students help by using kind words, thinking before posting, speaking up when they see someone being hurt, and telling an adult when something feels wrong. Families help by asking about their child’s online classes and free time, talking about feelings, watching for signs such as sadness, withdrawal, or fear, and contacting the school with concerns. The school helps by hosting events about respect and empathy, offering clubs where students feel they belong, and guiding and protecting students.

1.9 Policy review

This policy is approved by the governing authority, communicated to students, families, and staff, and reviewed at least annually. Last reviewed: June 17, 2026
