Most Florida families come to Legacy Online School because the current school stopped working. The schedule doesn’t fit. A student fell behind in math. Mornings turned into a fight. Changing schools is a normal decision, not a failure.
One thing up front: Legacy is not Florida Virtual School. Legacy is a private school in St. Petersburg that teaches the curriculum FLVS developed through FlexPoint Education Cloud. Lessons are live, with a teacher on screen and no more than 15 students in the group.
Florida Law and Online Learning
Florida law requires children aged 6 to 16 to attend school. Enrolling in a private school is one way to meet that rule. Already home educating? Once your child enrolls in a private school, you send the district superintendent a notice of termination within 30 days. Your district can confirm the rest.
The Florida Department of Education in Tallahassee lists Legacy as a private school (School Code 9881). The school is also accredited by WASC.
Which School Plan Fits Your Family
There are two plans. Live Group means 15–25 live hours a week, depending on grade, with a teacher and classmates on a fixed schedule. Self-Paced suits a family whose week keeps changing: you set the pace, and a teacher is there when your child gets stuck.
Math, language arts, science, social studies, electives – both plans use the same FLVS curriculum, and virtual clubs are open to every student.
High school adds 19 AP courses approved by the College Board, Honors classes, and dual enrollment with Arizona State University and the University of South Florida. The diploma comes in three tracks: Standard, Accelerated or Honors. Every student has a transcript, and older students get college guidance. Your Learning Support Specialist sends progress updates without any chasing.
Tuition
Tuition starts at $149 a month, and grade and plan move that number. Current figures are on the tuition and fees page. The enrollment fee is $299 for the first child and $199 for each sibling. Tutoring is $25 an hour. A 7-day full tuition refund applies, and the enrollment fee is non-refundable.
