How to Register for GED? 

The GED has specific requirements for students who wish to take the test and obtain the certificate. For students aged 16 or 17, these rules include:

  • Mandatory presence of a parent or guardian
  • A set of required documents, which includes:
    • Government-issued/non-expired student ID
    • Government-issued/non-expired parent ID
    • Birth certificate
    • Social Security card
    • School withdrawal form (The name on the withdrawal form must match the student’s ID, and the form must be dated)

For students aged 18, the rules include:

  • A current, valid government-issued. Acceptable forms of identification include:
    • Driver’s license or ID issued by a state or territory
    • U.S. Permanent Resident card
    • U.S. Passport
    • U.S. Military ID
    • Employment Authorization Card (I-766)
    • Foreign passport with I-94, I-94A, or I-94W
    • Foreign passport with a U.S. Visa
  • Social Security card
  • Birth certificate

Students, regardless of age, must create a GED account to take the exam.
