Set the Stage for Your Child’s Future Success! Enroll Now

Middle school is where academics start to count. Grades 6–8 build the transcript, the habits, and the subject foundations that determine what’s available in high school. A weak middle school program creates gaps that are hard to close later – in math especially, but across every discipline.

Legacy Online School runs grades 6–8 as part of a full K–12 online program. WASC-accredited. Qualified teachers. A middle school curriculum designed to prepare learners for the challenges of high school and beyond.

Middle School Curriculum: Grades 6–8

Our middle school program covers all core subjects on a FLVS-based US-accredited curriculum, with electives that extend beyond the standard core:

Core subjects:

  • Language Arts / English – literature, writing, grammar, communication
  • Mathematics – Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1 preparation, foundational skills for high school math
  • Comprehensive Science – life science, physical science, earth science
  • Social Studies – world history, geography, civics, economics introduction

Electives available at middle school level:

  • Computer Science Discoveries
  • Digital Art and Design
  • Journalism
  • Spanish

Elective selection gives learners the chance to discover genuine interests before high school – when those choices carry more academic weight. Not every program offers this range at the middle school level. Worth checking the actual course catalog before assuming it’s available.

Three Learning Plans

Live Group Learning – live online classes with qualified teachers, maximum 15 learners per class, 1:15 teacher ratio. Daily structure. Real interaction with teachers and classmates. For middle schoolers who need accountability and regular teacher contact.

One-on-One Learning – individual lessons, personalized learning curriculum and schedule. For children with intensive academic needs, significant scheduling constraints, or those who simply don’t perform well in group settings. Every pace decision is built around one child.

Self-Paced Learning – no fixed school year, no synchronized schedule. Teachers grade coursework and give written feedback. Progress moves at the child’s pace. Suitable for families who need genuine scheduling flexibility – not a modified version of a fixed calendar.

Part-time plans available for learners supplementing existing arrangements. Virtual clubs and extracurricular activities included in every enrollment plan.

Additional tutoring is available at $25/hour across all plans.

Preparing Middle School Students for High School

Middle school at Legacy is structured around one practical goal: making sure learners arrive in Grade 9 ready. That means:

Math foundation. The sequence from Grade 6 arithmetic through Grade 8 pre-algebra isn’t decorative – it’s the prerequisite for Algebra 1 and everything that follows. Our middle school courses are designed with the high school math pathway in mind.

Writing and communication. High school courses – and certainly AP courses – demand writing fluency. Middle school is where that fluency gets built. Language Arts coursework at grades 6–8 is designed to develop academic writing, not just basic literacy.

Study independence. High school rewards learners who can manage their own work and ask for help when they need it. Online middle school, particularly in the Self-Paced plan, develops those habits directly – enrollees learn to work without someone managing every hour of their day.

For high-achieving middle schoolers, our program offers the depth to stretch them. For learners who’ve struggled in traditional settings, the 1:15 class ratio and one-on-one option provide the individualized attention that larger classrooms can’t deliver. For families thinking further ahead – dual enrollment through Arizona State University (ASU) and University of South Florida is available at high school level. The only dual enrollment partners we work with.

Accreditation

Legacy Online School is WASC-accredited – the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. College Board Level I approved school, code: 000114. Credits are transferable to other accredited institutions. The academic record your child builds in middle school is part of a continuous K–12 program that leads to a fully accredited high school diploma.

Legacy is an internationally accredited program that coexists with local schooling. Families are responsible for ensuring compliance with any local education requirements applicable to their situation.

Enrollment

No enrollment window. No residency requirement. Rolling enrollment – your child can start at any time.

The Online Middle School Environment

Middle schoolers are at an age where the learning environment itself matters – not just whether content is delivered, but whether it’s engaging enough to hold attention and challenging enough to develop real skills.

Online middle school at Legacy is not passive. Live Group classes involve real-time interaction – students ask questions, participate in discussions, and work alongside classmates even without being in the same room. Self-paced courses include interactive assignments, not just videos to watch. Teachers give written feedback that’s specific to the individual learner’s work, not generic comments on a shared rubric.

The small class size in Live Group – maximum 15 children, 1:15 teacher ratio – means middle schoolers aren’t lost in a crowd. Teachers know their pupils academically and can identify when something isn’t clicking before it becomes a problem. That level of individual attention is difficult to sustain in a traditional classroom of 25–30.

For families new to online middle school, the transition is supported. Enrollment is quick – accounts are ready within 48 hours – and families receive guidance on how to structure the school day for a middle school learner specifically.

FAQ

Q: What is an online middle school program and how does it work?

A: No campus, no commute. Learners in grades 6–8 access coursework through a digital learning platform – live classes, assignments, teacher interaction, peer engagement. Legacy runs this as a WASC-accredited program, not a supplemental service. The full middle school curriculum. Qualified teachers at every level. Live Group caps at 15 per class. Self-Paced lets learners move on their own timeline. Same standards either way.

Q: How do qualified teachers help students in the online learning environment?

A: They teach. Grade. Give specific written feedback. Notice when something isn’t landing before it becomes a real problem. In Live Group, class sizes of 15 make that possible – a teacher genuinely knows who’s keeping up and who isn’t. In Self-Paced, every submission gets reviewed individually. Not automated. Not generic. And for pupils who need more targeted help, tutoring is available at $25/hour across all plans.

Q: What makes Legacy’s online middle school curriculum engaging and effective?

A: The elective range, mostly. Computer Science Discoveries, Digital Art and Design, Journalism – alongside the standard core. Middle school is when interests start forming. A program that only offers core subjects misses that window. The FLVS curriculum framework is proven rather than experimental, and assignments are interactive rather than passive. Teachers read submissions. That last part is less common than it sounds.

Q: How can I enroll my child in Legacy’s middle school program?

A: Complete the enrollment application at legacyonlineschool.com. Provide basic academic history. The admissions team handles grade placement and plan selection. No intake windows – rolling enrollment means your child can start any time. Account ready within 48 hours. A free trial lesson is available if you want to see how it works before committing.

Q: What learning options are available for middle school students?

A: Three. Live Group: synchronized live classes, maximum 15 children, five days a week. One-on-One: individual curriculum and schedule, built around a single learner’s needs. Self-Paced: no fixed calendar, no synchronized schedule – progress moves when the student moves. Part-time enrollment exists for families supplementing an existing arrangement. Virtual clubs are included in every plan, not an add-on.

Q: How does online learning at Legacy help students build communication skills?

A: Live Group classes of 15 don’t allow passive participation. Your children ask questions, contribute to discussions, and articulate thinking in real time – the format requires it. Written assignments specifically develop academic writing, not just general literacy. Interestingly, the online environment often pushes communication harder than a traditional classroom does. Hard to disappear when the class has 15 people.

Q: What support systems are in place to help students stay on track academically?

A: Teachers monitor progress and reach out when something’s off. Parents get access to tracking tools. Tutoring at $25/hour covers targeted help when a student needs it. In Live Group, the 1:15 ratio means a struggling student gets noticed fast. In Self-Paced, every assignment is graded individually – no batch scoring, no anonymous slip through the cracks. Multiple layers, not just one.

Q: How does the online middle school experience prepare students for high school?

A: The math sequence runs from Grade 6 arithmetic through Grade 8 pre-algebra, built specifically as a foundation for Algebra 1. Writing coursework at grades 6–8 develops the academic writing AP courses later demand. And children who’ve spent two or three years managing their own work in an online setting arrive in Grade 9 knowing how to study without someone standing over them. That skill is underrated. University rewards it even more than high school does.

Q: Is Legacy an accredited online middle school, and why does accreditation matter?

A: WASC-accredited – the Western Association of Schools and Colleges. Same standard as established US private schools. Credits transfer. Academic records carry weight. For UAE families, the relevant question is whether the credential travels internationally. WASC does. Some accreditations are recognized only within a single country or system – worth verifying before enrolling anywhere. A diploma that doesn’t transfer is a problem that shows up years later, not at registration.
