Doha is full of families who came here for work and stayed for the life. Good neighborhoods. International schools on every block. A school run that, depending on traffic, can swallow forty-five minutes of your morning. And somewhere along the way, more and more parents start asking the same question: does my child have to be in a classroom from 7:30 to 3:00 to get a strong education?
We are a US-accredited international online school that coexists with local schooling. Families are responsible for ensuring compliance with any local education requirements applicable to their situation. With that on the table, here is how an accredited private online school like Legacy actually fits into family life in Qatar.
A few patterns repeat. The international school your child loves has a long waitlist for the grade you actually need. Tuition keeps climbing. Your work schedule has shifted, or you’re traveling between Doha and somewhere else half the year. Maybe your child is bored at school and ready for AP courses two years before their school offers them. Maybe the opposite, and they need to slow down on one subject without falling behind in the others. Maybe your child speaks Arabic at home and you want stronger English-language exposure before they apply to university.
Online learning solves a different problem for every family. That’s the point.
Legacy is a private American online school, WASC-accredited and affiliated with the College Board. Live, interactive online classes taught by qualified teachers. A real timetable. Real grades. Transcripts with a QR code that any university registrar can verify in seconds.
For families in Qatar, the most common entry points are:
Full K-12 enrollment is available too. Many expat families in Qatar use Legacy as their primary educational provider, alongside whatever local arrangements their family situation requires. Requirements vary by visa type and residency status, so please verify with MOEHE. More on that in a moment.
Live group classes cap at 15 students. Each session is a conversation, not a lecture broadcast to a hundred webcams. Self-paced learning runs alongside it for families who need the flexibility – same curriculum, different pacing, both equally valid options. Your child can be in a group class at 9:00 AM Doha time and finish independent work after lunch.
Subjects are taught in English. Curriculum follows the US K-12 framework delivered through FlexPoint Education Cloud, which means your child is on the same track as students preparing for American universities from inside the US.
The school day is typically four to five hours of focused work for elementary, five to six for middle and high school. Less than a brick-and-mortar day. More efficient because there’s no transit time, no fire-drill interruptions, and no waiting for thirty other students to settle.
Doha parents weigh the usual options. British curriculum schools. CBSE schools for the Indian community. IB programs. American schools. And, more recently, accredited online programs.
The British education route ends in Cambridge IGCSE and A-Levels. CBSE leads to CBSE board exams. IB ends in the IB Diploma. Legacy is the American pathway. WASC-accredited high school diploma, AP credits accepted by 3,900+ universities worldwide, transcripts that universities in Qatar and abroad know how to read.
Picking between them comes down to where your child plans to apply. A student aiming at US universities benefits from AP credits. A student aiming at UK universities can still use AP scores at most institutions. A student aiming at universities in Qatar or the wider Gulf should verify each institution’s admissions requirements. There is no single best school in Qatar. There’s the right fit for your family this year.
This is the question every family in Qatar asks. Here is what we can and cannot tell you.
Families in Qatar applying for or renewing a Dependent Family Entry Visa for children aged 6-18 are required to register their child’s educational status with Ministry of Education and Higher Education through the Maarif Portal. Legacy Online School provides an Enrolment Confirmation Letter and academic transcript upon request, which families can use to document enrolment with an international online school. Families should confirm the specific documentation required for their visa type with MOEHE or a licensed Qatar immigration professional.
What we cannot do is tell you that Legacy is approved by MOEHE Qatar or licensed to operate as a Qatari school. We are an internationally accredited American online school available to expat families in Qatar. Families should verify educational status requirements with MOEHE and their visa documentation.
Tuition fees depend on grade level and the plan you pick. The current pricing for the academic year is on the tuition and fees page.
You can also book a free trial class before deciding. One class for your child, one meeting for the parent. That tends to answer more questions than any brochure can.
The admissions team handles placement, paperwork, and timing. Enrolment is year-round, your child’s account is ready in 48 hours so you don’t have to wait for September. Many families start mid-semester after a move or a change in their main school.

Legacy Online School is an internationally accredited online school (WASC + College Board). Our programs are designed as supplementary and advanced education alongside a student’s primary school enrollment. In some countries, families may use Legacy as their primary educational provider through legal pathways such as international online schooling. Laws on compulsory education and homeschooling vary significantly by country and region. Families are solely responsible for verifying the legal status of online education in their country and region of residence, and for ensuring compliance with applicable compulsory education requirements. Legacy Online School does not provide legal, immigration, or tax advice.
A: It depends on your situation. Legal status of online and home education varies by residency, visa type, and your child’s age. Many expat families in Qatar use accredited international online schools like Legacy without difficulty, often alongside local arrangements. We are not lawyers and we can’t give legal advice. We recommend speaking with a qualified Qatar education or immigration professional before deciding.
A: Legacy is not licensed by MOEHE as a Qatari school. We are a US-accredited international online school. For MOEHE visa registration purposes, we provide an Enrolment Confirmation Letter that families have used through the Maarif Portal.
A: Yes. This is one of the most common setups. Many families in Qatar use Legacy for AP courses, English-language enrichment, or Summer School while their child remains enrolled at their international school.
A: Kindergarten through Grade 12. Elementary, middle, and high school programs are all available. Tutoring runs for students of all ages.
A: No. Home school is a separate concept where parents act as the primary teachers and the family takes legal responsibility for curriculum delivery. Legacy is an internationally accredited online school. Qualified teachers run the live online classes. The curriculum is set, the transcripts are issued by the school, and your child is enrolled with us – not registered as a homeschooled student. Many expat families in Qatar use Legacy from home, but the educational structure is school-based, not home-school-based.
A: Yes, in the broad sense. Distance learning means students and teachers are in different physical locations. At Legacy, distance learning works in two ways. Live Group classes happen at scheduled times – your child joins a live online classroom with qualified teachers and up to 15 classmates. Self-paced courses let your child work through the same accredited curriculum on their own schedule. Both options are equally valid and lead to the same WASC-accredited transcript.
A: The Legacy diploma is WASC-accredited and AP credits are recognized by American universities and many institutions globally. For specific universities in Qatar, the UK, or elsewhere, we recommend checking each institution’s admissions requirements directly.
A: No. Legacy is an American school. The curriculum follows the US K-12 framework, delivered through FlexPoint Education Cloud, and leads to a WASC-accredited American high school diploma with 19 AP courses available. Families in Qatar looking specifically for CBSE board exams will need to enroll with a CBSE-affiliated school. Families looking at US, UK, Canadian, or Gulf universities that accept American transcripts and AP credits find Legacy a fit.
A: Tuition varies by plan and grade level – full pricing is on the tuition and fees page.
A: A short admissions conversation, recent school records, and an English-proficiency conversation for older students. The admissions team walks you through it.
