Some families leave a school after years of quiet frustration. Others leave after one bad week. In Georgia the question that follows is the same: what comes next, and how do we do it properly?
Legacy Online School is a private virtual school for grades K-12. It is not a Georgia public charter school or a district program. Classes are live and capped at 15 students, and they run on Eastern time, the same as Atlanta.
Georgia requires children aged 6 to 16 to attend a public school, a private school, or a home study program. Home study families file a Declaration of Intent with the Georgia Department of Education within 30 days of starting, then again every September 1. Legacy is a private online school based in Florida, registered with the Florida Department of Education (School Code 9881) and accredited by WASC. Please note that it is not a home study program. Before you enroll, ask the Georgia Department of Education in Atlanta whether your child’s enrollment changes any paperwork.
Live Group means 15–25 live hours a week, depending on grade, with a 9:00 AM start. Elementary school meets Monday through Thursday, while middle school and high school meet Monday through Friday. Self-Paced fits a family whose week keeps changing – you set the pace, and a teacher steps in when your child gets stuck.
Both plans use the FLVS curriculum on FlexPoint Education Cloud, with all course materials digital. Qualified teachers lead the lessons. A Learning Support Specialist sends parents progress updates.
High school students have access to 19 AP subjects as well as a dual enrollment program with Arizona State University and University of South Florida. Students earn credits in preparation for either a Standard, Accelerated, or Honors diploma with college guidance starting for older students.
Tuition starts at $149 a month, and grade and plan move that number. See tuition and fees for current figures. The enrollment fee is $299 for the first child and $199 for each sibling, so two children cost $498 before tuition.
Georgia also has the Promise Scholarship that gives you up to $6,500 per year. This scholarship has its own qualifications, and it only covers the students who study at participating private institutions (visit mygeorgiapromise.org and inquire with the admission team if Legacy participates in this program).
Legacy does not currently support non-verbal students. Want to see a class first? Join a free trial class.
