Three Alumni Success Stories
Rohan’s Story: A Tech Innovator on the Rise
Rohan Adwankar always had a passion for technology. He switched to a K-12 online school to explore his technology interests. The K-12 online school allowed Rohan to set his own pace and engage into exciting projects. Rohan achieved a perfect score on his Advanced Placement (AP) Computer Science exam. He aced the exam without cramming, driven by his passion for science and technology.
“I was curious about computer science. Not just for a test, but I was curious about the subject. Like genuinely curious.”
Rohan Adwankar, Lauren Springs School
Rohan made contributions to public health tech at a science fair by applying machine learning. He used machine learning to create two programs. One program simulated potential Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) drugs, and the other detected early signs of Alzheimer’s through speech patterns.
Addressing Alzheimer’s inspired him to push the boundaries of computer science. He uses K-12 online education to deepen his knowledge in computer science and make a meaningful impact on the world.
Michayla’s Story: From K-12 Online Education to Aviation Dreams
Michayla Cain grew up in a family of aviators, sparking her love for aviation during family trips. Traditional school limited her ability to travel as much as Michayla desired. She made a decision to switch from traditional school to a K-12 online school.
“My family has always traveled and when I was in brick-and-mortar school, traveling was only for break time. But since I joined AZVA we have been able to go anytime”
Michayla Cain, K12
The K-12 online school let Michayla travel freely as long as she had Wi-Fi. It also equipped Michayla with the essential tools and knowledge she needed to become a pilot. She studied aeronautics and weather, key skills for pilot. Michayla focused on these skills and joined supportive virtual clubs and events.
Michayla uses K-12 online education to become the first female pilot in her family and a commercial pilot.
Ben’s Story: From High School Dropout to Tech Innovator
Ben Pasternak is an Australian entrepreneur. Ben achieved significant strides in the tech industry since he was 15 years old. These strides began with the mobile game “Impossible Rush”. “Impossible Rush” hit the top of the App Store charts, and traditional school fell short for Ben. He left traditional school to attend a K-12 online school for flexibility to develop another program.
Ben moved to New York City and co-founded Flogg, a teen-focused social app. Flogg got venture funding before it even launched and opened up new connections for Ben. Ben launched an artificial intelligence (AI) research lab that specializes in natural language processing and computer vision. The lab earned Ben a spot on Forbes’ “Top 10 Innovators Under 40” list and an invitation to speak at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
The World Economic Forum in Davos inspired him to keep developing transformative technologies that could reshape the tech industry.
